Schroff products meet the new IEC standards

In summer 2008 the revised IEC standard 60297-3-100 and its extension, IEC 60297-3-105, will be published. In particular, the revised IEC 60297-3-100 will redefine the basic dimensions of 19“ cabinets, 19“ subracks, 19“ cases and 19“ front panels. Schroff products already conform to these new determinations. IEC 60297-3-100 replaces the previous standards IEC 60297-1 and 2.

The addition of the IEC 60297-3-105 specification to IEC 60297-3-100 "Dimensions and design aspects for 1 U chassis" will, for the first time, describe three types of 1 U high 19" chassis in one IEC standard:

• Type A: 1 U high chassis that are connected to the 19" cabinet or frame at the 19" front panel only.
• Type B: 1 U high chassis that are connected to the 19" cabinet or frame at the 19" front panel and are further reinforced by means of slide rails.
• Type C: 1 U high chassis that are connected to the 19" cabinet or frame via telescopic rails. Here the 19" fixing to the cabinet upright serves only as protection against extraction.

The various versions of the 1 U high multipacPRO 19" chassis from Schroff already conform to the new IEC 60297-3-105. Users can build into these 19" steel plate or aluminium chassis both non-standard components, electrical parts and power supply units, or standard circuit board formats using the internal mounting kits. All components from the europacPRO subrack programme may be used. Types A and C of IEC 60297-3-105 are available from stock, while variants of type B are available on request.

The 1 U high 19" CompactPCI and VME64x systems, based on the Schroff europacPRO subrack programme, conform to the new IEC 60297-3-105 standard. In these 1 U systems two horizontal boards 160 mm deep can be accommodated. Additionally, space is available for horizontal rear I/O boards with IEEE guide rails including ESD clip. The shielded 1 U CompactPCI and VME64x systems are equipped with appropriate backplanes and ventilation units and are available as IEC 60297-3-105 type A from stock, and as types B and C on request.
