New handle for AdvancedTCA and MicroTCA mid-size carriersAdvancedTCA and MicroTCA |
|
Schroff has developed a hot-swap capable handle for the insertion and withdrawal of AdvancedTCA and MicroTCA mid-size carriers. The new IEA handle (IEA = Interactive - Ergonomic - Aesthetic) can be used with stainless steel or aluminium front panels and conforms to the AdvancedTCA (PICMG 3.0) and AdvancedMC (AMC.0) specifications.
The AdvancedTCA specification defines two positions for the hot-swap microswitch. In the plunger style, the switch is operated from above, while in the lever style it is activated from the front. The new handle is therefore available in two versions, to allow for the correct activation of the switch in both of these standard positions. The handle fits to the front panel in its closed state, thus preventing any undesired release of the board. Only by pressing the integrated hot-swap button can the handle be opened. The button snaps in audibly when pressed and clicks audibly when released. The hot-swap activation mechanism is in metal and therefore highly robust. The handle itself is likewise metal, with a plastic cover for a comfortable surface feel. Its ergonomic design allows the user to cope with ease with the high insertion force of the AdvancedTCA connector of roughly 500 N per board. The well-designed mechanism ensures that the board remains in position even when subject to severe vibrations and avoids inadvertent activation of the microswitch. A flat surface is provided on the handle on which written designations or a logo may be placed. Optionally, a transparent plastic cover may be fitted to protect such written information. The handle kit includes two types of screws for fixing it to circuit boards, Torx and Phillips, allowing the handle to be used worldwide. |
