VXS Tower-case system

A complete VXS system with 7-slot backplane

The VITA 41, also known as VXS, was developed in order to make available the advantages of serial data transfer via the VMEbus while also ensuring downward compatibility. VXS is based on the VME64 extension and uses switched-fabric technology to extend computer bandwidth. It thus allows speeds of up to 10 Gb/s per port.

The VXS tower case system for serial data transfer

Schroff's product programme for these applications includes a VXS tower case system with backplane. This shielded case system with a depth of 300mm, based on the ratiopacPRO enclosure, is designed for vertical card mounting with rear I/O. The front and rear installation area offers space for up to seven plug-in cards 6U in height and 160mm deep. A drive enclosure will accept a DVD or CD ROM drive unit. The 4-slot, 6U VXS backplane with P0 connector and 3 VXS payload slots connected as a ring conforms to VITA 41.0, 41.1, 41.10 and 41.11.

Power supply is via a 19" PSU plugged in at the front, rated at 250W and offering wide-range input and PFC. Cooling is effected by fans that draw heat upwards through the system. Fan speed is a function of temperature and is set and monitored by a microcontroller FCM (fan-control module). Error functions are indicated by LEDs. Thus a high level of system function security is ensured.
