MicroTCA system for horizontal board assembly

Schroff has expanded its range of MicroTCA systems with a compact system for the horizontal assembly of AdvancedMC modules. Only 3 U high, 84 HP with a depth of 200 mm, the system offers very high functionality density in the smallest space.

In the new 3 U MicroTCA system up to ten Single Full-size AdvancedMC modules, two MCHs (MicroTCA Carrier Hubs) and two power modules can be assembled. The two power module slots are 12 HP wide, so that future MicroTCA AC power modules can also be integrated into the system. As a fully redundant system it is arranged with two MCH slots, two power moudule slots and two plug-in cooling units with one cooling unit EMMC (Enhanced Module Management Controller) each per system. The air filter is arranged as a frame-type plug-in unit and like the AdvancedMC modules can be exchanged easily from the front.

In the left half of the MicroTCA system there are two board cages for Single modules. To the far left the power modules are arranged and next to them to the right the two MCHs as well as two further AdvancedMC modules are assembled. The right half of the system contains a board cage for Double modules, into which four Double Full-size modules or, with the aid of the splitting kits (which are included in the delivery), eight Single Full-size AdvanceMC modules can be inserted.

The integrated MicroTCA backplane of the system is assembled in the area “common options”, the GbE area (Gigabit Ethernet), and in the area “Fat Pipe/extended Fat Pipe” as Dual Star. In the “Storage Interface” area some direct connections are arranged. The clocks are arranged in a radial manner from the two MCHs to the ten AdvancedMC slots. The line recovery clock has connections from all AdvancedMCs to both MCHs.
