Standards

Due to the high requirements for reliability many standards have to be taken into consideration. The following table shows a selection of standards for enclosure technology:

Standard Title Remarks
MIL 810-F Environmental Engineering Considerations And Laboratory Tests Critical for enclosure technology are shock and vibration.
VG 95373
15IEC 61587-3
Electromagnetic Compatibility - Electromagnetic Compatibility of Equipment - Part 15: Test Methods for Coupling and Shielding All EMC rest reports are carried out in accordance with VG/IEC.
MIL-STD-285 Attenuation Measurements for Enclosures, Electromagnetic Shielding, for Electronic Test Purposes Schroff prefers VG 95373/15 as a specification for tests.
MIL-STD-461 / 462 Requirements for the Control of Electromagnetic Interference Emissions and Susceptibility

Shock and Vibration

In general, cabinets on board of ships are equipped with shock absorbers. 4 absorbers are assembled under the cabinet and 2 are used as wall mounting on the top. The design requires a calculation that takes the cabinet dimensions and payload into consideration. Documentation of standard versions with detailed descriptions and test reports are available.

ElectroMechanical compatibility (EMC)

ElectroMechanical compatibility (EMC)

For many years Schroff has been one of the leading developers of EMC compliant solutions. At Schroff, all cabinets, cases as well as integrated systems are available as EMC versions.

The earlier in the construction process the topic EMC is considered, the more effective the enclosure solution will be in regard to the price-performance ratio. The case family ratiopacPRO and the new cabinet platform VARISTAR are just two product examples with outstanding EMC characteristics at an attractive price.

To find the best compromise between conductivity and long-lasting corrosion protection aluminium parts are often chromated. In order to comply with the RoHS standards that has come into operation on the 1st of July 2006 Schroff has introduced colourless chromated standard finishes (yellow finishes remain available on request).

Due to a laboratory, Schroff is capable to conduct general inspections of electromechanical compatibility in field experiments up to measurements in the absorption chamber.

Conformal Coating

Especially developed for the defence technology market Schroff offers the Conformal Coating that is in accordance with MIL 810 and MIL I 46058 C. As a special protection against corrosion, fungal decay and dust a polymeric compound is sprayed onto during the spraying process.

Magnetic shock

To survive strong magnetic shocks due to detonations aluminium cabinets (e.g. Eurorack) are preferred.
