VARISTAR cabinet

Retrofittable rear door cooler for VARISTAR server cabinets

In data centres equipped with Schroff server cabinets, simple steps can be taken to improve the overall cooling capacity of the installation over time. Most of the perforated doors used on server cabinets allow airflow rates of 78% and thus a heat dissipation of up to 7 kW. However, as servers become increasingly powerful and packaging density continues to rise, a time will come when the air conditioning alone can no longer provide the necessary cooling in the individual cabinets. The Schroff LHX15 rear door cooler is simple to retrofit and can significantly improve the overall cooling system. The water circuit integrated into the rear door cooler removes heat efficiently while not burdening the room air of the data centre. This reduces the load on the room air conditioner, and it is then possible to add extra servers even where the existing air conditioner has reached its physical limits.

For a cooling capacity of 15 kW per cabinet and a desired air exit temperature of 21.5 °C, a water flow volume of 1.8 m3/h, a water inlet temperature of 15 °C and an airflow volume of at least 2400 m3/h is required. If the required airflow is not achieved by the fans of the servers present, extra fan modules can be fitted to direct the hot air actively through the water circuit of the rear door.
